Jim Boston

Mr. Boston is a seasoned "AV" rated trial lawyer. His practice interests primarily include medical liability, professional liability, and matters before the state medical and nursing boards. He has represented physicians, hospitals and adjunct healthcare professionals in complex medical liability cases involving brain damage, death, paralysis, and disfigurement. He has defended attorneys and insurance professionals in cases of alleged professional malpractice, has defended products liability cases; and has represented franchisees in disputes involving breach of contract, tortious interference and fraud.  He has spoken at the Texas Judicial Conference, South Texas College of Law - Houston, University of Houston Law Center, Texas Medical Liability Trust Defense Counsel Seminar, and the SBOT Advanced Medical Malpractice Seminar.
 
Mr. Boston attended law school on an advocacy scholarship.  He was on two regional championship teams, was a national finalist and international semifinalist. He received the Warren P. Cunningham Award for National Appellate Advocacy.

Matthew Hughes

Mr. Hughes’s courtroom successes are demonstrated by three honors:  (1) he is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; (2) he is an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates; and (3) he is rated AV-Preeminent as a trial lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.
 
Mr. Hughes has defended hundreds of physicians in cases involving alleged medical malpractice and in matters before the State Medical Board. He also handles health law matters and employment matters, including employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and trade secret protection.

Gary Sommer

Gary Sommer is an experienced trial attorney whose practice emphasizes the defense of doctors and hospitals in matters of alleged medical negligence. Mr. Sommer began his law career in the U.S. Navy J.A.G. Corps where he served as a trial attorney and was chosen to serve as a judicial clerk for three appellate judges. While in the J.A.G. Corps he earned his L.L.M. from George Washington University National Law Center in Washington, D.C. Mr. Sommer joined Boston & Hughes, P.C. in 1999 where his practice continues to emphasize trial and appellate advocacy in cases involving complicated medical issues.


In his free time Gary enjoys endurance bike training, tennis, and keeping up with his children’s activities at the University of Alabama and University of Nebraska.  He recently completed his twelfth MS 150 bike ride and has started doing triathlons.

Melissa Astala Khan

Missy Khan is a trial lawyer who defends doctors, nurses, pharmacists, hospitals and other healthcare providers in matters involving alleged negligence. In addition to her law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in Houston, Texas, Missy also holds a Master's degree in Medical Humanities from the Institute for Medical Humanities at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Her experiences and education at the Institute, including a clinical practicum at UTMB's John Sealy Hospital, have given her insight and appreciation for the work of physicians and health care providers, which serves her well in her current practice. She currently serves on the Law Practice Management Committee for the Texas State Bar.
