Matthew B. E. Hughes

Mr. Hughes’s courtroom successes are demonstrated by three honors:  (1) he is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; (2) he is an associate member of the American Board of Trial Advocates; and (3) he is rated AV-Preeminent as a trial lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.
 
Mr. Hughes has defended hundreds of physicians in cases involving alleged medical malpractice and in matters before the State Medical Board. He also handles health law matters and employment matters, including employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and trade secret protection.
 
Mr. Hughes serves as President of the Houston Bar Association Health Law Section.

Recent Results

  • Successfully obtained dismissal of TMB matter (“deemed jurisdictional not filed”) in matter involving plastic surgeon accused of leaving portion of syringe in patient’s face. 
  • Successfully defended physician accused of scarring patient during dermatological procedure.
  • Successfully negotiated a settlement in a hostile work environment racial discrimination claim on the eve of a federal court trial in Houston..
  • Successfully negotiated a modification of a non-compete agreement for an outside salesman who resigned his position. 
  • Successfully obtained dismissal of numerous medical malpractice claims during the last two years. 
  • Successfully obtained a 12-0 jury verdict in Montgomery County in favor a physician accused of failing to respond to breathing difficulties.  
  • Successfully obtained a 12-0 jury verdict in Harris County favor of physician accused of provided insufficient anti-coagulation.
